Are You Open For Business?

Lately I've noticed a lot of entrepreneurs with private profiles on their social media accounts, and it begs the question, “Are you open for business?” How do you expect to attract any new customers when no one can see your posts?

If you're an entrepreneur, you've likely heard many mentors tell you that people buy from people they know, like and trust. When your profile is locked up so tight that no one can see anything, nobody can check you out and decide if they'd like to learn more. It's more difficult to earn the know, like and trust factor by being mysterious.

I'm always perplexed when I go to follow someone back on Twitter or Instagram and discover they have a private profile, especially if they're another entrepreneur. Do they want people to follow them back or not? I don't want to invade their privacy. And if I can't see anything, and I request to follow them, will I be unpleasantly surprised to find offensive content or clickbait? It's happened before.

Similarly, I don't accept friend requests on Facebook when I can't see any of their photos, posts, or About Me details. I wrote about this in 10 Tips To Grow Your Network And Increase Sales On Facebook.

I know dealing with spam and weirdos can get a little tiring at times, but it's all part of being in business.

I've met entrepreneurs who were unaware their social media profiles were private. When you set up a new profile on some social media sites, your settings may default to private unless you change them.

If you're in business and want to grow your audience and increase sales, please check your settings to make sure your profile is public and people who are browsing can see some of your best posts. You will have a much easier time attracting people who are looking for you and who will grow to know, like and trust you.

Did this help you? I’d love to hear from you.
